Programmes against depression
In France, a national programme against depression is under development in the INPES (Institut National de Promotion et d'Education pour la Santé). It falls under a series of actions that goal is to decrease of 20 % of the number of people presenting bipolar disorders, depressive disorders or nevrotic disorders not recognised.
A suicide plan was launched in 2000. One observed a light inflecting of the prevalence of suicide which was of 12 000 deaths a year at the end of the Nineties compared to 11 500 these last years.
This national programme of fight against depression was elaborated in 2003-2004 and should be committed within the end of 2004 and the beginning of 2005. It includes five axis: information of general public on depression and its treatments; to improve tracking and the diagnostic identification; to improve the therapeutic strategies to take in charge of depressed people especially in general medicine; to standardise prevention measurements of depressive repetitions and the chronicisation; seek and evaluation on depression and its treatment.
The network City-Hospital against depression (REDEP)
In the Hospital of Pontoise, we take part in the EAAD Program and the implementation of a pole which aims is taking in charge people who made a suicide attempt. A City-Hospital health network around depression is under creation. Through this network, the general practitioners will be able to reach a teaching program and training courses on depressive disorders and their treatments.
The general practitioners members of the REDEP, which has questions about the treatment of depression and the difficulties of taking in charge some of their patients, can permanently get advice from an expert available by telephone. In partnership with a medicine department of the Hospital and/or a private clinic of Pontoise, they can also organise hospitalisations of patients requiring permanent cares, a major evaluation of their clinical state or a particular assessment. The purpose of this association which will gather general practitioners, pharmacists, psychiatrists etc..., will be also to support the realisation of the European Alliance Against Depression (EAAD).
